π½ America Celebrates 250 Years! πΊπΈ
If you're looking for a fun, family-friendly Central Illinois event this September, make plans to visit the 2026 El Paso Corn Festival!
The annual festival returns to El Paso, Illinois, September 10β12, 2026, with free admission and three days of carnival rides, food, live entertainment, contests, a parade, community traditions, and plenty of small-town fun.
This year's theme is βAmerica Celebrates 250 Years,β making the 2026 celebration a special year for one of El Paso's longest-running traditions.
Admission to the festival is free, and everyone is welcome!
Unless otherwise noted, entertainment takes place at Jefferson Park.
π½ A Little History: The El Paso Corn Festival
The El Paso Corn Festival has been a Central Illinois tradition for nearly 80 years.
The first El Paso Corn Festival was held September 11β13, 1947, organized by the newly formed El Paso Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the community's agricultural heritage and the harvest. The inaugural festival reportedly attracted more than 5,000 people and featured entertainment, street dancing, a carnival midway, and other community activities.
The festival's original slogan was βCapital City of the Corn Belt,β a fitting name for a celebration rooted in the agricultural history of the area.
Over the decades, the Corn Festival has continued to evolve while maintaining many of the traditions that make a small-town festival special: food, entertainment, contests, a carnival, community organizations, and a parade.
π Remembering the Corncapades
One of the more entertaining pieces of Corn Festival history is the Corncapades, a variety show that helped raise money for early festivals.
The shows featured vocal and instrumental music, dancing, comedy, and other performances. They also helped fund prizes for contests held during the September festival.
Some of the wonderfully creative Corncapades titles over the years included:
Kernels of Korn β 1947
Gone With Big Blow β 1948
Gay Nineties Review β 1950
Home on the Range β 1951
Scars and Gripes Forever β 1952
Unearthed β 1953
Campbell House Blues β 1954
Up a Lazy River β 1956
Eventually, the Corncapades gave way to other fundraising traditions, including talent shows and royalty contests.
Those traditions helped establish the festival as more than just a celebration of the harvest. It became a true community event.
πΊπΈ 2026 Theme: America Celebrates 250 Years
The 2026 El Paso Corn Festival is celebrating a very special milestone with the theme:
America Celebrates 250 Years
With the United States marking its 250th anniversary in 2026, the theme adds a patriotic touch to this year's festivities while continuing the festival's tradition of celebrating community and local heritage.
And what better place to celebrate than a Central Illinois town with nearly eight decades of Corn Festival history?

β€οΈ A Central Illinois Tradition
The El Paso Corn Festival is a great example of what makes small-town Central Illinois events so special.
It started as a celebration of agriculture and the harvest nearly 80 years ago, and while the festival has changed over the decades, the heart of it remains the same: community, tradition, family, food, entertainment, and a reason for people to come together.
From the early Corncapades to today's carnival, parade, live music, and community events, generations of El Paso residents have helped keep the tradition going.
And 2026 gives everyone another reason to celebrate as the festival joins in the nationwide celebration of America's 250th year.
